Roy Rogers Ashley was born on June 6, 1940, to Roy Ashley and Beulah (née Peavy) Ashley in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Roy accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. Roy excelled as a student in the Bogue Chitto School system until he graduated from Alexander High School, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. After graduation, he met and married the love of his life, Delores (née Sanders) Ashley; the couple then relocated to Fort Worth, TX. During this union, six precious children were born. Roy led his family to the Beth Eden Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor B.R. Daniels, Sr., where he and Delores joined and served. Roy served as both an Usher and on the Transportation Ministry until his health failed. Roy continued to work hard and provide for his family, until he permanently retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad Company after over 20 years of service. When not working, nothing brought more joy to Roy than hanging with the family and his grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and took pride in supporting them at their school activities. When relaxing, you might catch Roy napping, listening to music, or fishing. On Sunday, March 30, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, Roy Rogers Ashley, husband and loving and devoted father, peacefully entered the gates of heaven, where he was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Although Roy’s earthly presence will be missed, he is now resting in the arms of Jesus, where there is no more suffering. Those left to celebrate Roy’s memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Delores Sanders Ashley; sons, Tracy Ashley and Dennis Ashley (Etta); daughters, Sylvia Hill (Shawn), Margaret Ashley (James), Stacie Ashley (Eric) and Samathis McElroy (Marion); 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Artis Ashley (Roberta), Diane Ashley, Larry Ashley (Audrey), James Ashley (JoAnn), Willie Ashley (Sonya), Lisa Gamble, and a host of other relatives and friends.
