Ernest Joseph Grant was born on December 26, 1951, to Alice and Earl Grant, Sr., in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a young scholar, he attended St. Philip the Apostle Elementary School. He graduated at 16 years old from Joseph S. Clark, “Home of the Bull Dogs." He enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served on the U.S.S. Lexington. He was employed by U.S. Gypsum and Charity Hospital of New Orleans.
He was married to the love of his life, Ollie Breaux, for 52 years. Their union was blessed with the birth of Kia Lynn. He was given the name “Paw Paw” by his only grandchild, Demi Nikole Lyn, whom he affectionately called "Mooch.”
After Hurricane Katrina, he joined New Bethel Complete in Christ Church under the leadership of Michael J. Moore, pastor, mentor, and friend. He graciously served on the deacon board and never missed an opportunity to fellowship with his church family.
He enjoyed listening to music and watching westerns. He was fond of spending time with family and friends while feasting on New Orleans cuisine. He was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the LSU Tigers.
Ernest was preceded in death and reunited in Heaven with his parents, Alice and Earl Grant, Sr., his brother Earl Grant, Jr., and his sisters Lynn Toval, Kathleen Dunn, and Katherine Grant.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife, Ollie, his daughter, Kia (Tony), his only granddaughter, Demi, his sister, Brenda (Preston), and a host of loving family and dedicated friends.
