Frank Stevens, Jr. (So-no) was born on May 14, 1944, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, as one of three children to Frank and Geneva Jack. At a young age, his mother remarried and he was adopted by his stepfather, the late Leo Stevens, who was a loving father and kind spouse. Frank graduated from the historic Washington High School. After graduating as a Washington Indian, Frank moved to Houston, Texas, to pursue work and live in a big city for a short time
He later returned to Lake Charles to work in the family business, Stevens Honey, the first and only black-owned bee distribution company in Lake Charles. He later met and married Betty Anderson and started a family that consisted of four daughters and one son.
In addition to working for the family business, Frank also worked as a chef and an offshore man. He enjoyed cooking and loved watching cowboy movies. Frank also enjoyed walking, being outdoors and had a fondness for horses. He was a member of The Trail Blazers and participated in numerous Calcasieu Parish Trail Rides and parades, which consisted of over 250 prize horses. His favorite horse was the Tennessee Walker show horses that he rode at Delta Downs Racetrack in Louisiana. His favorite meals during the Trail Rides were Sauce Piquant and Cowboy Stew.
Frank was a member of Old Emanuel Baptist Church in Lake Charles. He appreciated walking to the church on early Sunday mornings and peaceful afternoons feeding squirrels with one of his grandsons. He was a fun-loving father who you could count on for a good laugh. His favorite saying was,“Be good.If you can’t be good, be careful.” Frank accepted the call from his Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents; Leo and Geneva Stevens and younger brother, Ray Stevens.
