Joe Earl Harkless

On Saturday, July 25, 2020 our beloved Joe Earl Harkless departed his earthly life at Estates Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of Mrs. Thelma Hill and the late Mr. Osia Van Hill of Shreveport, Louisiana.

He received his diploma from Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. He continued his education at Grambling State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and his ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification from Lincoln Technical Institute. Joe was a brother and father who loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed teaching his kids values and passing along the knowledge he’d gain throughout his experiences. Joe was a believer in helping others and gave selflessly of his time and resources.

He is preceded in death by his father Osia Van Hill, a sister Juanita Stance and a brother Fred Earl Hill. He leaves to cherish his memories with his devoted mother Mrs. Thelma Hill of Shreveport, LA; 3 children, Sonya(Ronnie) Newton of Dallas, TX, Donald(Wartika) Harkless of Fort Worth, TX and Joseph Harkless of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren, LeQuentis Harkless, LaChara Horsley, Tyrell Horsley Sr., Krystle Curtis, DeOndrai Newton, Maeisha Box, Joseph Harkless Jr. Tristan Harkless, Ariel Smith, and Jaxin Harkless;

7 siblings, Mary Francis King of Longview, TX, Osie Hill of Torrance, CA, Lauretta Hill of Shreveport, LA, Bettie Hill of Cypress, CA, Billie Hill of Shreveport, LA, Charles Hill of Dallas, TX, and Clyde Hill of Shreveport, LA.; 16 great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
