Norma Elaine Simmons was born November 7, 1952 in Lake Charles, LA. She was the youngest
out of four children to Roy and Anna Deruso. After graduating from Washington Marion High School she
took a short adventure to California, then moved to Texas. While visiting Fort Worth, Penny was united
in marriage to the late Rickie Simmons and three children were born. Working as a daycare assistant to
support her family , she moved on to a career with the United States Postal Service as a mail sorter and
retired as a Passport Clerk after 34 years of service.
During her life tenure she continued her education at Tarrant County College for Psychology and
made the Dean’s list. She was known to be everyone’s biggest fan, a person that loved to travel,. Norma
had a great sense of humor while also firm and direct. Penny stood by what she believed in while
protecting and supporting her kids all the time. Throughout her life she was most known for being
sophisticated and classy. Norma was a loyal friend and selfless mother whose heart touched everyone
around her. Penny’s smile and laughter will be missed dearly as she rests in Heaven.
Those left to cherish her memories are her living sibling, sister Lucille Marie Fradieu,
children; Terrance Simmons(Tina), Soria Lyons(Virgil), Rayland Simmons(Katrina), grandchildren;
Kayla Simmons, Courtney McGregor, Kaitlyn Lyons, Terrious Simmons, Virgil Lyons Jr., Xavier Dears, and
Rayven Simmons, devoted friend Robert Johnson and host of extended family and friends.
Preceded in death are siblings Tommy Deruso, Brenda Joyce Cotlong, parents; Roy and Anna Deruso.
